As the Fine Art Departments of Hong Kong’s universities get ready to celebrate this year’s class of graduating fine art students, moderator Kay Mei Ling Beadman, herself an artist, will lead a discussion with art critic John Batten, curator Ying Kwok and graduating students Kate Siu Man Kit, Mindy Lui Yan Yi and Igor Chan, that will cover the opportunities and hurdles that lie ahead of aspiring young artists as they embark on careers in these uncertain and challenging times. Topics that will be discussed include the need for each artist to establish what is essential about their work, how to navigate the sheer scope of media available today, how to the pay the bills and find time for actually making art, and importantly how the challenges that the world has faced in 2020 are also bringing new opportunities for inspiration.
