Cathleen Lau is a Hong Kong-based artist with a practice in mixed media sculpture and cross-media, large-scale installation. Cathleen graduated from the Hong Kong Art School (RMIT) with a major in sculpture. Her work unfolds the possibilities of how sustainable and renewable materials can be used, such as creating wooden carvings with molded sawdust. Moreover, she sculpts spaces by engaging with a variety of mediums, ambiences, and audiences to present mixed media carving and installation art. Her work is concerned with the natural world as seen in the urban context, using nature as a metaphor for human and social conditions, thus contemplating the norms and boundaries of living beings.

Cathleen received the Reaching Out Scholarship after graduation, with which she was able to explore

the craft and land art in Japan. In 2018, she was awarded the Director’s Choice Award from the

Hong Kong Human Rights Art Prize. Her work has been showcased at the Affordable Art Fair Young Talent. She received a Merit Award at the Taipei FreeArt Fair in 2016 and Best Graduation Work

Award (Sculpture) in 2015. Her work has been exhibited in Switzerland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.
