Greek/Italian born and raised in Ethiopia and later moved to Canada. Began photographing at age 12. Attended part-time photography studies at Niagara College, Algonquin College and Carleton University (all in Canada). Holds associate degrees in Telecommunications Technology and Computer Engineering from Niagara College, a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and professional certification in Exhibition Studies and Art Curatorship from the Hong Kong Art School. Lives and works in Hong Kong as a photographer, artist and independent curator. He is a part time lecturer at the Hong Kong Art School/RMIT and an adjunct professor at SCAD University.

Look-up ‘Street Photography’ in Wikipedia and the attempt to define it starts with ‘… a form of documentary photography’. But is it really? Both Street Photography and Documentary photography are well understood traditions, so why is it that the former is so easily confused for the latter?

The “Decisive Moment” (Cartier-Bresson, 1952) was coined by Henri Cartier-Bresson who is considered as one of the most important and influential practitioners of the “street-photography” genre. In his 1952 book by the same title, Cartier-Bresson, introduced to the world a more humanistic but also a more formal approach in his photographic vision. He has been credited with elevating documentary and journalistic photography to a new form of personal artistic expression.
